In Jesus' time, the dogwood grew
To a stately size and a lovely hue.
'Twas strong & firm it's branches interwoven
For the cross of Christ its timbers were chosen.
Seeing the distress at this use of their wood
Christ made a promise which still holds good:
"Never again shall the dogwood grow
Large enough to be used so
Slender & twisted, it shall be
With blossoms like the cross for all to see.
As blood stains the petals marked in brown
The blossom's center wears a thorny crown.
All who see it will remember me
Crucified on a cross from the dogwood tree.
Cherished and protected this tree shall be
A reminder to all of my agony."

"But he was wounded for our transgressions, he was bruised for our iniquities: the chastisement of our peace was upon him; and with his stripes we are healed."
Isaiah 53:5
Good post, Chari. Liked it.

It snowed here too! It was colder than Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's. The weather has been nuts!! I think we're finally going to get some nice weather this week.
ReplyDeleteHmm, I’ve not come across that legend of the
ReplyDeleteDogwood Tree. But I guess it just adds to the beauty of this breath-taking tree. Don’t the White Flowering Dogwoods look lovely when the y burst in bloom?! Nice post Chari. Keep up the good work and ‘chari tree’ ?.
