Show and Tell Friday

I haven't joined Kelli's Show and Tell Friday for a little while. I wanted to share a couple of finds from our last shopping trip.

Mom, Angie and I stopped at a couple of thrift stores last Friday. We found some great buys. It's such fun looking for treasures! I found this at the first store:

I love finding pretty little things like this for a little bit of nothing. Now I just need to have some friends over for a tea luncheon. :)

Show and Tell: Vintage style

I had some fun shopping our garage sale last weekend. (I'm pretty sure I got rid of more than I acquired, though!) :) I am using these items in decorating my house - mostly my family room. I wanted to share a few for Show and Tell (for more show and tell - check out Kelli's blog!)

First off this ironing board:

My mom bought this for me when I was little. I remember thinking it was so neat! It has a matching iron that became warm when plugged in. (I think I have it somewhere, and will probably be attaching it with magnets!) :) Somewhere along the line, Dad or Mom cut the wire - good idea. Anyway, I wired it where the legs would stay against the board and made a loop to hang it with. Aren't the owls cute? (For perspective, it's about 2 1/2 ft tall.)

This phone wasn't mine, but I thought it was so neat.

It hangs on the wall, which I haven't done yet. But I did get it cleaned up yesterday and it's looking great! It makes me wonder what type of conversations were had on it. There's not date, but there is a switch on the bottom that makes the bell ding.

Some of my readers have seen this, but I wanted to put it in my show and tell.

I think the design on this frame is so pretty, and I will be fixing it up... So check back in a while to see what I do with it! ;)

Show and Tell: The Nest

For Show and Tell, I wanted to share something that is sitting on my coffee table. The bunnies are probably familiar, but the new thing is the jar. :) I had been wanting a (real) bird's nest. A few weeks ago, my sister-in-law brought me one that a bird had build on Mark's grandmother's wreath a year or two ago - don't worry, it was vacant. :) Later I found this jar at a Salvation Army sale, and put them all together. (I found the eggs before Easter... aren't they cute?)

I love the artful way the birds arranged their little home - the softest layer for the little birds.

Show and Tell: Old Knitting Books

When my grandmother came to visit in March, she brought me some books she thought I would enjoy. I wanted to share them with you!

The first three are knitting books: Learn to Knit, Women's Sweaters, and Classics from 8 to 16 (children's knits.) They are put out by the same company that makes Red Heart Yarn.

This book starts with the basics:

Show and Tell: Spring Bunnies

Every now and then I enjoy taking part in Kelli's Friday Show and Tell. This Friday, I wanted to share my rabbits with you. I know it is past Easter, but I enjoy my rabbits into the summer. I do have a few of what I call "cutsie" rabbits, but my favorite ones are much more realistic. (I am also including a quote about a rabbit from Little House on the Prairie by Laura Ingalls Wilder.)

And sometimes there'd be a great gray rabbit, so still in the lights and shadows of a grass clump that you were near enough to touch hime before you saw him.

His round eyes stared at yours without meaning anything. His nose wiggled, and sunlight was rosy through his long ears, that had delicate veins in them and the softest short fur on their outsides. The rest of his fur was so thick and soft that at last you couldn't help trying, very carefully, to touch it.

Then he was gone in a flash and the place where he had been sitting was hollowed and smooth and still warm from his warm behind.

I hope you have enjoyed my Show and Tell. All of these bunnies were bought at my favorite store in recent years. Show and Tell: Teapot

I found it in a Christmas clearance section at a wonderful little kitchen shop in a nearby town. I think it looks very wintery, not just Christmas, don't you? :) (For my regular readers, I know I just posted this... I wanted to share it separately for Show and Tell. Thanks for being patient! Once Upon a Time...

there were four little Rabbits, and their names were - Flopsy, Mopsy, Cotton-tail, and Peter...

Many children have grown up with the adventures of Peter and friends. He has become a household name since his popularity with the first published book in 1901. Gracie, my "adopted niece," really enjoyed Peter for a while, and still does. I think she was always a little afraid of "Mr. Gregor." :) I have collected a few various items relating to Peter and Beatrix Potter.

The dress and the book at the far left were mine as a little girl.

I love this set of books. They are just the right size! They are also very similar in size and setup to those that were originally published by F. Warne & Co. in the early 1900's.


I found these two Peter's at a garage sale and couldn't resist them! :)


I love the movie Miss Potter. I don't own it (yet) but I did find this book at a discount book store. It has a lot of interesting facts about Beatrix's life as well as about the movie.

Speaking of the movie, I highly recommend it! I have enjoyed it multiple times. It is very beautifully filmed and is mostly accurate. I think it is very true to the person of Beatrix Potter and how her personality might have been.

Show and Tell: Ivy

I love ivies. I have a hard time passing them up in the store, especially the pretty healthy ones with beautiful petite leaves! :) I enjoy having them around my home, they seem to add life to the house! I enjoy training them. I've had this heart for a few years.

This one, Mark got me for Valentine's Day. I love the cheery yellow pot! You may remember it from my Easter table decor a couple of months ago.


I picked this little guy up a couple of weeks ago. He's quite small and needed a little pot. I found this mug for a dollar and put pebbles in the bottom for drainage. (He's still adjusting to his new home, thus a little discoloration/brown spots.) Can you see the green "steam" spiraling up from the cup of "coffee?" :)

and yes, that is last Friday's date... I was going to do this last week and got too busy. I liked the calendar page, so I didn't re-photograph it. :)

I also have a touch of ivy outside... These are my geraniums from last year, with the English ivy around them. They are happy it is spring! :)


And this one doesn't really qualify as ivy, but I like him too... I repotted it, and it really drooped for a while, but it is thrilled to be outside and these things are really hardy. I call it a shamrock, I guess it qualifies as such.

Show and Tell: Cherries

I haven't done a Friday Show and Tell for a while. I have been wanting to "Show and Tell" some of my cherry collection. So here it is!

First a little arrangement in my dining room. This little part of the counter kind of juts out into a little nook. Melissa sent me this beautiful cherry picture recently, her mom was gracious to deliver it! ;) The lamp is a gift from my mother-in-law shortly before we were married. (She finds the neatest things!) The black and white picture is of my grandparents shortly before they were married. My grandmother worked at the local drugstore where the picture was taken.

I took this picture before the above one and decided it needed a little extra touch. I love what a difference just the little bit of ivy made!

This is a teapot and cream/sugar set I got for my birthday several year ago from Mom and Dad. The cake plate was my grandmother's.

I love Mary Engelbreit! She has so many cute cherry things! Here is a teacup/saucer and little soap that are M.E. The coke salt/pepper shakers are a gift from my aunt and uncle several years ago. And the coke candle was my grandmother's - she added the cherries to the top! :)

Dollstones

For several years, I have collected the Dollstone figurines by Boyds. They are getting harder to find, as there aren't many stores that carry them for some reason, unlike the more popular bears. Anyway, my collection is expanding, I got several for my birthday last year. The detail is amazing: lace, knitting, flowers, hair... This is just a few of my collection, and hopefully I will be adding more. :)

This is the main place where I display my collection. (It has overflowed to other areas.)

One of my favorites to the left, I love all the flowers and the gazing ball.

This was the first that I got.
Can you find the Dollstone? This is one that I got for my birthday, and I was amazed at how well it matched the picture!

Also, you may have noticed, I love having Scripture around our home. I think it helps to give our home a Godly atmosphere and remind us of the purpose of our home.

Show and Tell

I love visiting "homey" blogs. One of the ones I found recently is Kelli's over at "No place like Home." Kelli has posted many cute decorating ideas and crafts. Each Friday, she hosts a Show and Tell. I have been wanting to join in for a few weeks, but am finally getting around to it. :) I want to show the shelf we got for Christmas for our living room. (To see a before picture of the living room, click here.)

We had some issues getting the shelf hung, because the wall curves. (The fireplace was added to the house later, and not everything was done exactly right by previous owners.) Anyway, we finally got it up there after a trip to the hardware store, and I added some decorations, but wasn't real thrilled with how it looked. Kinda blah. I did want to keep most of the decor: the title of the bottom book is "A Bunch of Cherries" :) The Willow Tree figurine was a gift from my parents for our engagement.

So the first step was to add a little softness -some ivy/flowers I have been storing for a while.

Then... I love this red etched glass!! I found this at an after-Christmas sale at Hobby Lobby.

The final product. I like this a lot better!
